Celebrating our not-strangers-but-not-friends, 1:1 introductions
Dear friends,
We are wrapping up a full week of Galentine’s events at Podium; celebrating female friendships, reflecting on love in all its forms. Which seems intuitive enough to do with our innermost circle. But what about those that sit somewhere between strangers and friends?
We’re great at celebrating our ride or dies, the friends that show up no matter what. But the ones we overlook most of the time, are the “weak ties”. The friend’s friend you met at a dinner you nearly skipped, who you ended up surprisingly clicking with. The colleague you like enough to want to have lunch with everyday, but not close enough to consider a friend outside of work. But why should we celebrate them if they’re “weak ties”?
Celebrating our not-strangers-but-not-friends
Because these “weak ties” are not actually weak at all. They’re the ones that usually get you that job opportunity that eventually becomes a career breakthrough, the ones that would be happy to introduce you to someone you’d never otherwise have the chance to meet, the one that ends up becoming your housemate.
In fact, these are the “weak ties” our community is built on. So consider this a love letter to all of you, the women we would never otherwise have met. Thank you for the perspectives you shared at a Mastermind, for being open enough to share your lived experience at a Soulful Supper, for creating spaces to learn new things together at an Insight Hours. All to a group of ‘not strangers but not friends’.

The whole concept of ‘weak ties’ is actually what inspired us to launch 1:1 introductions. We’re still building and refining it (hello beta v2!), but the idea is simple: we match members based on interests and season of life, and we’ve been evolving the way do so, now adding psychological profiling into the mix.
